Camp Albion, a new play, will be performed at The Watermill Theatre in Newbury next month. Beginning on the 6th July, the play with music will run until 16th July.
This new play written by Danielle Pearson is based on the “Third Battle of Newbury” an environmental campaign that happened in the theatre’s very own town in the 90’s. It was said to be one of Britain’s biggest ever anti-road protests.
Local campaigners battled against the construction of the Newbury bypass, which eventually went ahead after an inquiry found in favour of the new road.
Through the characters of Cassie and Dylan, Danielle’s play looks at the heroism, humour and heated debated that was rooted in the heart of that very campaign.
Alongside the play, the writer will be holding interactive workshops. These are designed to spark creativity amongst attendees who can use their new-found skills to write their own material.
Jessica will lead everyone through creative writing exercises based on the themes of the play.
The Watermill Theatre will be running a two-course set menu to accompany performances of Camp Albion.
The play is currently touring around Berkshire, Hampshire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire for open air performances. Tickets range between £10-£25.
