Tinwood Estate vineyard celebrates its fifteen year anniversary this month, coinciding with its appointment as a protected Designation of Origin (PDO) for wine by the Environment Secretary.

The estate, which is located in Cirencester, first opened in 2007. It started out with 46,000 vines of grapes over 28 acers. The vineyard has only expanded since, as it’s now home to 100,000 vines across 65 acers.

At fifteen years old, the vines are coming to an age where the quality of the wine is exceptional. If you need the proof, look no further than the two gold awards Tinwood’s Blanc de Blancs have been awarded at the International Wine Challenge and The International Wine and Spirits Challenge.

It has also been appointed as a PDO for wine by the Environment Secretary. This status recognizes the wine’s quality and distinctive characteristics that are exclusively a result of the location that the wine is grown and produced. Tinwood’s status means that Sussex is put on par with European wine regions such as Champagne, and recognised as a high-quality wine producer.

Discussing the estate’s recent achievements, owner Art Tukker says - “When we planted our vines here on the family farm 15 years, we never dreamt that we would be winning Gold medals in the world’s largest wine competitions, not just once but twice in the same Month (IWSC; International Wine & Spirit Competition, and IWC; International Wine Challenge). It proves the soil and location here in Sussex allows us to grow world class quality wines. As our vines mature and our thirst for knowledge increases, we can’t wait for what the next 15 years will bring”.

The estate offers daily tours and wine tastings from £21 per person. As well as the vineyard, Tinwood offers a luxurious afternoon tea where guests get to enjoy its award-wining wines alongside sweet and savoury afternoon-tea staples. Is a day not enough? You could always stay the night at one of Tinwood’s luxurious lodges.
